Success!!!

Wow! We had a g-r-r-r-eat book fair last week!  Can you believe Titche kids, parents, and staff bought over $3,000 worth of books and goodies?  How exciting is that! And the even better news is that our Titche library gets to keep $1774 in Scholastic dollars!  That means I can order all kinds of neat stuff for the library and new books for our book clubs from Scholastic!  I'm so excited!  Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our All-Star book fair...it was a smashing success! :)

Also, yesterday was our first My Very Own Book giveaway! It was so fun to get to give almost 150 student brand new books to take home and keep!  I hope that we quadruple that number next six weeks!  That means you all need to be reading every single night and tracking your minutes on your reading logs.  Remember, there are minimum reading minutes required in order to qualify for a certificate and a free book.  Just because you turn in a log doesn't automatically mean you get a free book...you have to read the required amount of minutes for your grade level!

In case you need a reminder of what those requirements are....

PK-1st
100 minutes-Bronze
300 min- Silver
400 min- Gold

2nd-3rd
350 minutes- Bronze
500 minutes- Silver
600 minutes- Gold

4th-5th
600 minutes- Bronze
800 minutes- Silver
900 minutes- Gold

As you can see, my upper grade students really have to stay on it....you have to read at least 20 minutes a day, 7 days per week, in order to qualify for a free book! You can do it though...especially reading some of those new interesting books you bought at the book fair last week! :)

Let's keep up the great work, Titche Tigers! Thanks for supporting your school library!

It's Book Fair Time!!!

Guess what! It's fair time! Not just down the street at the great State Fair of Texas but right here in the Titche Library with our annual Scholastic Book Fair!! The Book Fair will open Monday and there are going to be so many awesome books to choose from!

If your parents want to shop online, they can go to our book fair webpage:
http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/edwardtitcheelemsch

The library will be open each day from 7:30-3:30 pm. Please do not come before or after school unless you are accompanied by a parent. You will visit the book fair with your class on your regularly scheduled library day/time and are welcome to shop then! I recommend that you bring at the very least $5 to give yourself a few more options on what you can purchase.

Be sure to invite your parents to visit the Book Fair during Parent Conference Night! The class that brings the most parents to the Book Fair will earn a special treat from Mrs. Crabtree! Parent conference will be held Thursday, October 18, from 4:00-8:00pm.

Thanks and I can't wait to see you next week at our All-Star Book Fair!

I am soooooooo excited because pretty soon we will be starting our 39 Clues Reading Club in the library with 4th and 5th graders!! The 39 Clues is an exciting series that will take us around the globe investigating and collecting clues...you are going to love it! However, it is going to be limited to the first 20 students who sign up in the library so make sure you see Ms. Embry ASAP to get your name on the list!

Library Success Stories!

This week I have been reading Our Librarian Won't Tell Us Anything to 4th and 5th graders as we get ready to learn how to use our library catalog to find books in the library! Just like Robert was a "library success story", I want all Titche Tigers to be successful in using our wonderful library! So here is a quick review of how to use our library catalog! 1) Click on the Mozilla Firefox icon. The home page is set to our PAC page. 2) Type in the subject, title, or author you are looking for in the search box. 3) When it pulls up the list of books, change the selected location to Titche Elementary if you want to search only books in our library. 4) Scroll through and find the title you want. Make sure it is available and write down the call number and title. 5) Use the shelf labels throughout the library to locate your item! 6) You are now a library success story! :)

For Girls....

I Spy a Good Book!

Library Visits

Good afternoon! I have enjoyed meeting many of you as you have come to visit the library for the first time with your Reading teachers this week! Now you have a book to take home and read for at least 20 minutes every night! Don't forget to fill out your reading logs for MVOB and bring them back to your teacher every Friday!! I am going to share a couple of suggestions for those of you who may be stumped when selecting a book...watch the book trailers above and see what you think!

My Very Own Book

Good afternoon! I just wanted to take a moment to share some information about the My Very Own Book program with you! Friday you should receive a letter to take home to your parents...make sure you get this to them so they will know what's going on whenever you ask them to sign your reading log! Next Tuesday when you return from the weekend, your teacher will give you your reading log. Take this home so you can write down all the minutes you spend at home reading! On Thursday nights, get your parents to sign your reading log and bring it back on Fridays to give to your teacher. Every six weeks, we will count up all the minutes you spent reading and the top readers will not only receive a certificate at our awards assembly, but you will also get a coupon to come select a brand new free book for you to take home and keep! So let's get those reading logs and a good book and get to reading!!! We want Titche Tigers to have the most reading minutes of any school in all of Dallas!!
